Festival Fun: Hyper Japan Festival (17/07/2016)

It’s that time of year again… Hyper Japan’s summer event is here! Unfortunately, I missed out on Saturday’s round of exciting events due to clashes to my schedule but nevertheless there’s always something on offer.

and much more…

This year’s Festival was held in Olympia, which had been a Christmas Market venue in 2014. The venue is a great open space. The food and merchandise stalls are situated on a terrace-like second floor that overlooks the main exhibitions on the wide ground floor.

This year is just like any other; you get what it says on the tin. It does an excellent job in fulfilling your japanophile needs – an assortment of anything Japanese from calligraphy classes, karate demonstrations, games and fashion.

My nephew is among them *cheers*

Despite all this, the festival was rather mediocre. It was EXACTLY what you asked for but it didn’t have the “wow” factor. Nothing really stood out, everything just blended into a beautiful rainbow ball of Japanese culture. You would walk about but there was hardly anything that would stop you in your tracks.

The only resistible thing was the food. Event after event, the quality of both fusion and traditional food has been outstanding. Call me bias but I always look forward to eating the freshly cooked food at Hyper Japan. The satisfying sizzle and succulent aroma produced from each stall tempted your tastebuds across the second floor. Nothing is better than a break from wondering and gaming than indulging in a hot delicious meal.

There’s nothing much I can say from this point really. It was a decent day out with plenty of activities to do but left a fleeting tinge of discontent in my heart. Food will certainly cheer you up a little. (Maybe that’s just me…)

Until Next Time,
