The Adelphi Theatre Presents Kinky Boots Review (31/05/17)

Upon hearing that a dear friend of mine had spare tickets for Kinky Boots for the front row I jumped at the opportunity. Literally bouncing around the house in excitement. I invited along my dear friend ImmatureCookie because we have been hunting for tickets for a while now and this opportunity was perfect.

Kinky Boots is a show to watch. From the amazing story line to the amazing execution of it all. Matt Henry as Lola just killed me. He was absolutely amazing as Lola. Now granted his makeup wasn’t stunning for a drag queen, he clearly played the role well. He had the sass and the jewels. David Hunter was not only a possible husband for me but also was just an amazing actor and singer. Both Henry and Hunter’s vocals were on point.

I was surprised at the space they had to work with on stage but they killed it. This tiny stage did not have that much space but they worked with it well. It was fab. The fact that the cast could simultaneously act, sing and move the set around required a lot of practice and skill.

This was one of the most enjoyable musicals I have ever had the opportunity to see for myself. I was crying through all the emotional scenes. I was laughing at all the jokes and innuendos. I was astounded by all the backflips and deathdrops on stage. This is one to watch. Granted that there are some prop issues the whole show makes up for this.

However, since going to watch this show I have found that the whole cast is leaving in 4 weeks time. So by the time you get a chance to see this show there will be a whole new cast to experience. Their new take on the characters is something I look forward to experiencing. Lets hope that they live up to expectations.
